WebTen Update Increases Compatibility and Enhances Robustness

Free Downloadable Update for all WebTen 2.1 Customers

Santa Barbara, CA, December 4, 1998. A WebTen update, released today by Tenon, adds new features and includes modifications for enhanced robustness, ease-of-use, and compatibility. The free update recommended for all WebTen 2.1 customers and is downloadable from: /support/files/WebTen.

This free update improves memory utilization and enhances operation with NetCloak, and WebSiphon, and WebSentinel. The DNS interface in the WebTen Administration Server has been extended to allow the explicit creation of name server records and to include domainmaster email addresses. A PowerKey Pro and Rebound! Plug-in is included with this update.

WebTen's 'sendmail' has been modified to support site customization and to give improved operation with form-based email programs, such as formail.pl and flexmail. Operation with Apple CGIs has been made more reliable and has been extended to support server 'push' functions, e.g. send partial. An Apache "deafness" problem, that appeared with specific hardware configurations, has been eliminated and operation on very fast (300MHz) G3 machines has been improved. The new update also includes improved organization with the WebTen libraries now being included in the WebTen folder.

For Macintosh Apache developers, the WebTen SDK has been upgraded to support this latest WebTen update. Macintosh web plug-in developers are encouraged to take advantage of this toolsuite to convert Macintosh web plug-ins into Apache modules. Tenon's web development kit integrates Macintosh and UNIX Apache web development with a universal plug-in architecture. The free toolsuite lets Macintosh developers create Apache modules that will run today with WebTen under MacOS, and later on MacOS X Server and MacOS X. Furthermore, these Macintosh Apache modules could easily be recompiled to run on any of the over 1.7 million Apache web servers worldwide. The WebTen SDK also lets UNIX vendors move standard UNIX-based web tools, such as databases, streaming audio and video servers, and eCommerce tools, to the Macintosh platform. The WebTen SDK can be used with Metrowerks' CodeWarrior or with Tenon's MachTen, and is downloadable from:/products/webten/SDK (NOTE: NO LONGER AVAILABLE).
