Santa Barbara, CA, July 17, 2002. Tenon Intersystems announced that their popular Apache configuration software, iTools, is still available for Mac OS X. Tenon affirmed that they have no plans to change the name to .Mac.
iTools - a suite of tools for serious webmasters from Tenon.Tenon has been shipping their flagship iTools product since the introduction of Apple's original Mac OS X Server in 2000. In 2001, Apple introduced their iTools service, which caused a fair amount of confusion for naive Internet consumers. Initially Tenon fielded phone calls from folks interested in Apple's iTools. Occasionally Apple iTools' users still try to register on the Tenon web site. Apple announced today that they are renaming their iTools to .Mac. This is good news for Tenon.
Tenon's iTools was updated this month to fix various security-related bugs. iTools 6.5.4 includes the latest Apache 1.3.26, which eliminates the recently found "chunked transfer encoding" vulnerability and an updated BIND 8.3.3 to eliminate the "libbind buffer overflow" DNS vulnerability. Tenon's policy is to keep their customers up-to-date with internet protocol implementations and to make standard web server tools easy to use. In addition to Apache and DNS, iTools includes an FTP server, a search engine, and various open source and commercial packages for scripting, log rolling, database support, Java Server Pages, Active Server Pages, and WEBmail. A new iTools Manager lets Macintosh webmasters configure Apache from a local or remote Aqua desktop; this complements Tenon's web-based tool suite. Tenon is also selling iTools and Post.Office (its mail server and list server for Mac OS X) pre-installed on Apple's new rack-mountable Xserve boxes.
