Tenon's iTools For Mac OS X

A suite of tools to dramatically simplify Apache configuration & maintenance includes a price reduction and new features

Santa Barbara, CA, April 27, 2001. Tenon Intersystems today announced iTools 6.0 for Mac OS X. Tenon's iTools is a web server that takes advantage of the preemptive multitasking and memory protection of Apple's next-generation OS. Tenon's iTools runs natively on OS X, extending and enhancing Mac OS X's networking performance, efficiency, ease-of-use, and functionality, with a family of tools essential to serious, commercial content delivery and eCommerce.

Using Apple's bundled Apache as a point of departure and incorporating the latest open source protocol implementations of Apache, DNS, FTP and sendmail, iTools extends the OS X platform with a rich set of network services. Tenon's iTools web server package is mature, integrated and scalable and all of the networking services are supported using a point and click, browser-based administration tool, enabling system administrators and webmasters to manage their web servers remotely using any internet browser. iTools provides the power and flexibility of an advanced graphical user interface, while still leaving the native configuration files accessible.

Tenon's iTools includes SSL for secure eCommerce transactions, FastCGI and mod_Perl for top CGI performance, an integrated, state-of-the-art caching proxy server that augments Apache's built-in proxy services, integrated domain name services, integrated multidomain ftp services, integrated logging, a high-performance Sherlock-savvy search engine. Also included is support for Java servlets and Java Server Pages with Tomcat, support for Active Server Pages with Halcyon's iASP, and mod_dav to support the transition from a read-only web to a collaborative, writable web via WebDAV clients.

A growing collection of open source and commercial web development tools are included and pre-configured to make setting up web services easy for webmasters. A partial list includes: PHP, a powerful scripting tool, MySQL, a popular open source database with web-based administration via phpMyAdmin, OpenBase and FrontBase, two commercial databases, Qilan, a web application construction environment that provides connectivity to multiple databases and MRTG (Multi-Router Traffic Grapher), for monitoring and graphing network traffic load. Also included is a powerful WEBmail server. The WEBmail tool turns Mac OS X into a complete POP3 and IMAP4 mail server and a fully customizable, anytime, anywhere 'hotmail' style mail client.

Tenon's iTools 6.0 is available now, downloadable from the Tenon web site. The introductory price is $399 and $299 (educational and sidegrades), and $99 (upgrade from iTools 5.0).
